Peterborough residents support wind energy, survey shows

A strong majority of Peterborough residents support wind energy and most would welcome wind farms in their area, a recent telephone survey reveals.

Almost three-quarters (73%) of residents across the city council area answered that they were ‘in favour of wind turbines as a source of clean energy’.

REG Windpower has permission for two wind turbines at French Drove, 4km north of Thorney. Peterborough City Council will decide on their proposals for four more wind turbines on the same site.

More than two-thirds of those polled on behalf of REG (68%) said they were in favour of a wind farm in this location, while 19 per cent said they opposed the project.

With renewable energy a hotly debated topic in Peterborough throughout 2013, the telephone survey was undertaken to test the feelings of local residents.

It was carried out by telephone across Peterborough post codes in November/ December 2013 by independent market research agency Marketing Means.  The survey involved calling 500 randomly selected residents across Peterborough.
